and let’s stay at a beautiful hotel while we’re at it!

Back in November, I had the honor of delivering a keynote, leading a breakout session, and signing books at the Virginia Association of School Librarians (VAASL) conference at Colonial Williamsburg in Williamsburg, VA. It was absolutely beautiful, and my family and I had an amazing time exploring it while meeting the fun, caring, and passionate librarians of Virginia.

My keynote was about curiosity, and how we need to utilize it to learn about ourselves and help others. How it fosters compassion and grace.

My breakout session was called Meet Me Where I Am. I talked about my experiences as being both a teacher’s pet/high achieving student and an “invisible”/struggling one, and how differently I noticed I was treated between the two phases. I talked about learning about the student in front of you and meeting them where they are. A call back to my Curiosity keynote!

I also had a book signing where I met so many amazing librarians, signed their novels, and took photos with them! 🙂

The conference was so joyous. Afterwards, my family and I explored the Colonial Williamsburg grounds and I quickly realized that we need to go back to get the full experience. It’s very interactive, with a museum, animals, restaurants, shops, and exhibits made to look like Colonial times.

I am so thankful for VAASL for having me and I hope they enjoyed the conference as much as I did! 🙂
