I did a 3-day juice cleanse with Pressed Juicery

I’ve always wanted to do a 3-day juice cleanse to see if I could actually do one all the way through, and to see what type of affects I’d have afterwards. At the end of last year, I really wanted to do one because

1. Since I was in the process of moving in November and didn’t want to buy a ton of groceries, I ended up eating a lot of fast and processed foods. Thanksgiving came right after. (‘nuff said)

2. I felt like my body needed a reset. I was doing a moderately good job of working out last year, and at some point I just fell off completely.

3. My wedding is coming up and I want to feel as good about my body as I can.

So, enter juice cleanse.

Pressed Juicery was kind enough to send me 18 juices for a three day juice cleanse in exchange for a recap and an honest review. Let’s jump into it!

What were my eating habits like before the cleanse?

It depends. I go through phases of intense fitness where I try to cut out all the bad things (and I’ve even done a crash diet, or two, or three.. don’t recommend those) but mostly, I’m someone who does drink a lot of water and tries to eat veggies with her meals. I’m just an intense snacker. If you hand me a bag of Hot Cheetos, I’m unlikely to turn them down. Or carbs. Give me all the carbs.

How did I prepare for the cleanse?

Pressed Juicery recommends that you ease your way off of solid foods before the cleanse with juices and salads before the cleanse, and unfortunately, I did not do that. I had Mcdonalds fries the night before the cleanse. Don’t be me, y’all.

The day of the cleanse was pretty interesting. The morning of, I walked outside my house to a big box of juices in a little cooler. Pressed Juicery recommends that you consume a mix of 2-3 Greens, 2 Citrus, and 1-2 Signature Almond Milks, but since I’m allergic to certain citrus fruits, I didn’t have a lot of citrus drinks to choose from, so they sent some extra green juices in their place. Here’s how I organized my juices:

Day 1:

  • Vanilla Almond
  • Greens 1
  • Orange
  • Greens 2
  • Greens 1.5
  • Almond Strawberry

Day 2:

  • Golden Milk
  • Greens 2
  • Activated Charcoal Lemonade
  • Greens 3
  • Greens 1
  • Almond Strawberry

Day 3:

  • Golden Milk
  • Greens 4
  • Greens 3
  • Citrus 3
  • Greens 4
  • Coconut Water

Day 1 Recap:

The Almond Milk is sooo good. I could definitely see myself drinking it for breakfast any day, and it was a great way to jump start the cleanse. I didn’t really feel “hungry”, like I was depriving my body of food, but I just wanted something to eat if that makes sense.

There was also a large gap of me not drinking when I should’ve (Pressed Juicery suggests you drink every 2 hours) because I was going on a 2 hour drive and didn’t want to have the intense urge to use the restroom on the road. I felt hungry then, not for food, but for a juice. Once I got the juice, though, my body was fine. Later, I just craved something to chew, particularly a salad and french fries.

I’ll also say with Day 1 I had really intense concentration. I read a lot. I guess because I wasn’t sluggish from so many carbs? Hmm.

Day 2:

I started this day with Golden Milk, which I absolutely LOVED. At some point I had the Activated Charcoal Lemonade drink, which I was a little skeptical about because it was black. It wasn’t bad though, it just tasted like muted lemonade. They say Day 2 is a lot harder than Day 1, and I believe it. I was actually hungry this day, and almost caved twice for something to nibble on. It seemed like all I could think about was food, lol!

Day 3:

Day 3 was the easiest in terms of hunger, but the hardest to navigate. I knew that the cleanse was ending, so I was getting ready to eat, and impatient with drinking just juices. I had the Citrus 3 Drink, which was the hardest for me to take in because I do not like grapefruit juice. I also had to turn down an invitation to go out to eat. But honestly, the drinks were keeping me full. I would mull over a drink, and by the time I finished, it would be time for another one.

After the cleanse:

I ended the cleanse with a soup from Panera Bread. I was actually too full to eat the salad I ordered with it. I lost five pounds, probably of water weight. Someone messaged me on Instagram to say my skin looked really bright, and I agree! I don’t typically have problem skin, but I did seem to have an extra glow. I did feel lighter and had a little more energy.

TMI:

Okay, this information might gross some people out, but I felt it was important to know. During the cleanse, I was on my cycle, and as someone who usually cramps intensely, I felt they were noticeably lighter and didn’t last as long. Also, in terms of “movements”, Pressed Juicery suggests taking colonics or enemas beforehand. It can get difficult because you’re only drinking liquids, and the colors may or may not reflect the colors of the juices you drank that day. 🙂

Favorite Drinks:

  • Vanilla Almond
  • Greens 1
  • Golden Milk
  • Coconut Water

Least Favorite:

  • Greens 1.5
  • Citrus 3

Would I do it again?

I remember thinking Day 2 of the cleanse that I would NEVER do it again, but now that it’s over and I survived without eating one bite of solid food, I’d say I’d be open to it whenever I need a reset. I probably won’t have Mcdonalds fries the day before and properly prepare next time. I’d love to do it with a group of people, so we can support each other through the Dreaded Day 2.

Let me know if you have any questions I forgot to answer! If you want to take a peak at some of my Instastories through the cleanse, follow me at @booksandbighair and check out the juice cleanse story under highlights 🙂

This is so interesting! I’ve never heard of this company before, but I definitely get those stretches of time where my stomach just feels awful and a good two or three days of gentle light “meals” like this would be a good way to take care of myself. Thanks for sharing, I may check this out!

Thank you so much for sharing this! I’ve always been interested in juice cleanses but never had the guts to take one on. Three days seems like the perfect length.

  • I’m hosting my FIRST 24-Hour readathon this Saturday! I thought this would be a fun way to catch up on our TBR (To Be Read) piles. The theme for this read-a-thon is Book Besties, so @thebookarcher and I will be doing our reading together! Will you join us? Even if you have to work, go to school, or sleep (because let’s face it, I’m definitely going to need a few hours to recharge) as long as you make reading the priority in your free time, you can definitely do it! I’d love if you tagged your bookish besties or shared this post to spread the word! The link to my video all about it is in my bio! 📚#booksandbighairathon
  • This was such a fun interview to do!! I’m talking about how reading builds empathy, what motivates me, why I chose to be a 3-name author, and so much more! Link in bio. Thanks @rachelmichellewrites for having me on your site! 🧡
  • Happy August!! So July was weird lol 🥴 I felt tested in one of my worst traits - indecision. I had to make a LOT of split second, important decisions and say some hard No’s. But, I’m looking ahead and I think they prepared me for a really great August. ✨ What are you looking forward to this month? P.S. I’m sharing my BookTube and Author Journey (thus far) on the newest video on my channel!! I talk about all of the decisions I’ve made (& jobs I’ve left) to make room for writing and reading books. Link in bio!! ❤️
  • Due to unforeseen circumstances, unfortunately I will not be able to attend Heck YA! book fest at @mainstreetbooksdavidson today. This is incredibly hard to announce, as I have been looking forward to connecting with so many authors and readers at this amazing festival! I feel disappointed, but I hope that there will be more opportunities to connect with readers in the Davidson area in the future. If so, you will be the first to know. Thank you so much for understanding. Again, this was incredibly difficult to announce. If you are attending Heck YA! Book Fest today, have a great time for me — as amazing as this bookstore is, it won’t be hard to do at all. 💙💙💙
  • Had a fun day of meetings and phone calls wearing my new piece of jewelry gifted to me by the @novelingshop! Can you tell I like gold? Lol 🤔😂✨ it says NOVELIST and I think it’s the perfect bookish accessory — I’ll be wearing it a lot! Also, the curls are back and doing their own thing. 🌀🌀🌀
  • I had the pleasure of writing one of the most honest things I’ve ever written for @popreader’s Her Story: Ladies In Literature series. The heroine I chose to write about was Anne Shirley from Anne of Green Gables. This book was life changing — for the first time, I saw a heroine who was equal parts introverted and sensitive + fiery with a sharp tongue 😂 Also, like me, Anne has an almost childlike wonderment and optimism that makes reading her story so easy, especially in stressful times. I feel like this essay is an introduction to who I am and what I want to accomplish with my writing. The link is the the first one in my bio! ❤️❤️
  • I’m so honored to announce that I will be the luncheon speaker for the North Carolina School Library Media Association Conference. What a blessing! I can’t wait to connect, create, and curate with all of you who will be there. 🥰📚 #ncslma
  • I’m in the latest issue of @lakenormancurrents talking about time management!! Which is so funny bc I’m easily distracted 😂 I’m talking about the techniques and materials I use to stay focused when it counts. I mention the @forest_app, my @simplified planner, and my @cultivatewhatmatters Powersheets, and my favorite pens ever - the @pilotpenusa Precise V5 pens. This was such a fun interview! You can read it at the link in my bio or if you’re local to Charlotte/Lake Norman area, you can pick up a copy in most grocery stores! 💙
